Agricultural Sector Braces for Potential Disastrous Weather

Pyongyang, July 16 (KCNA) -- A campaign for coping with imminent disastrous weather is dynamically underway in the countryside of the DPRK. According to data available, as of July 10, irrigation setups have been repaired and readjusted, namely hundreds of reservoirs, river embankments extending over one thousand kilometers, drainage canals extending more than three hundred kilometers and drainage ditches extending over two hundred kilometers, and tide-water control dykes have been reinforced in sections extending scores of kilometers. Pyongyang City and North Phyongan Province have turned out in rehabilitating irrigation setups such as drain pumping stations and floodgates, and South Phyongan Province pushes ahead with river improvement while servicing floodgate motors and water pumps. North Hwanghae Province is concentrating efforts on river dredging and embankment after finishing the rehabilitation of drain pumping stations, emptying gates and floodgates. Kangwon Province has completed rehabilitation of reservoirs and river improvement as planned and has improved drain pumping stations and facilities. Other provinces, having completed river embankment and clearing of drainage canals and ditches, now find out dangerous elements to take necessary measures. |
