Emergency Measures for Coping with Fierce Heat and Drought Taken in DPRK

Pyongyang, July 17 (KCNA) -- Sultry weather continues in most areas of the DPRK though it is rainy season. Officials and working people in all the fields and regions across the country have turned out in the campaign for preventing the damage from fierce heat and drought. In the field of education and childcare, teachers, kindergarteners and nurses are urged to take care of the living and health of pupils and children in a responsible way. The agricultural field takes measures for sufficiently supplying water necessary for the growth of crops by making maximum use of pumping stations and groundwater-tapping facilities including well, tube-well and underground reservoir, and for mobilizing various sorts of irrigation equipment. It pays primary attention to making an efficient use of water through the responsible control over irrigation waterways. It endeavors to take technological measures like correct observation and rapid extermination of harmful insects and regular application of various growth stimulants and biological activators to prevent the crops from getting damaged. Setting it as an important matter to sufficiently supply electric power for pumping water to farms, the field of the electric power industry scrupulously checks transmission lines and manages equipment to keep power transmission and transformer equipment from damage by overheat. The fields of urban management and land and environment protection take appropriate measures to provide the inhabitants with enough drinking water and prevent roadside trees, turfs, flower bushes and saplings of tree nurseries from getting damaged by high heat and drought. All the sectors of the national economy are taking timely measures to eliminate factors which can occur in the course of management and operation of machinery and electric equipment and also in the operation of trains. Every province, city and county are setting up regular control system and deploying observation posts in relevant places, while taking detailed and realistic measures to suit the specific features of their regions. Ministries and national institutions press for measures for sufficiently mobilizing manpower, equipment and materials to effectively cope with fierce heat and drought. |
