Songs and Dances Created during Anti-Japanese Revolutionary Struggle
Pyongyang, August 10 (KCNA) -- Among the immortal classics created by President Kim Il Sung in the early days of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle are revolutionary songs and dances "Maypole" and "Pride of 13 Provinces".

The President formed an art propaganda troupe in Fusong of China in winter of Juche 16 (1927) and conducted mass political work. In those days, he created the above-said art works and saw to it that they were widely performed.

In song and dance "Maypole", children dressed in uniforms symbolic of worker, peasant, solider, student, intellectual and other walks of life make a unity pole with narrow strips of cloth fixed to the top of it while dancing to the tune of "Song of United Front", a revolutionary song. This work shows in an artistic way the truth that all Koreans should unite as one in mind to defeat the Japanese imperialists and achieve the national independence.

In song and dance "Pride of 13 Provinces", children (art troupe members) representing 13 provinces make the Korean map with 13 parts while singing the pride of their provinces. It shows the pride and love for the country.

In the whole period of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle, the songs and dances were performed before not only broad segments of Koreans but also Chinese anti-Japanese nationalist unit soldiers on various significant occasions.

Those songs and dances greatly contributed to the establishment of revolutionary traditions in the country's art of music and dance, and they are still now inherited.
