Efforts for Preventing Damage by Typhoon and Downpour Brisk in DPRK

Pyongyang, August 11 (KCNA) -- Officials and workers in the field of land and environment protection direct their efforts to protecting the people, their properties and the assets of the country from disastrous weather. Officials and working people in Hoechang County, South Phyongan Province, who turned out in preventing damage by landslide, build retaining walls and stone walls in a qualitative way, get rid of the dangerous elements in rockslide-likely areas and minutely examine the durability of the anti-land-sliding structures. Those in Songchon County carried out an additional anti-land-sliding project to remedy defects in scores of spots in a section extending for several kilometers. They also finished cleaning ditches and drainage canals to prevent damage by torrential rain in tree nurseries. Improvement of rivers and streams including dredging and straightening is conducted to protect arable land in North Phyongan Province, Kaesong City and North Hamgyong Province. Officials and workers in those provinces and city also took measures to ensure the stability of roads and bridges and eliminate the dangerous elements. Those in coastal areas make thorough preparations to cope with any emergency situation while pushing ahead with repairing and reinforcing tide-water control dykes and breakwaters. |
