Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has rich mineral water resources like spa and medicinal waters. Typical are Kyongsong, Talchon (Jongdal), Paechon, Unchon and Sokthang hot springs. The temperature of hot springs in general is about 42-65 degrees Centigrade, and that of Ongjin spa is 104 degrees Centigrade. Their main ingredients are sodium ion, potassium ion, bicarbonate ion and sulphate ion. The Korean people have long acquired the spa therapy and introduced it into the treatment of various diseases. Bathing method was mainly used in hot-spring cure, and it has a long history. Detailed treatment methods based on spa were dealt in old documents dating back to Koryo Kingdom (918-1392). The research into bathing method was further intensified in the period of Feudal Jonson Dynasty (1392-1910), as evidenced by a book published in 1468 on the basis of experiences Jon Sa Rye obtained while working in the field of hot spring for a long time. The book describes in detail about the spa bathing method such as the caution in hot spring, break and treatment time, frequency of bathing, diet rule before and after the bathing treatment The facts show that bathing had been a main spa treatment method in Korea in the whole period from the ancient times to the middle ages. The Korean people found out that the hot-spring bath is efficacious for digestive trouble, arthritis, neuralgia, diseases of circulatory and respiratory systems, skin diseases, etc. |
