Past Crimes Committed by Japanese Imperialists against Korean Nation
Pyongyang, August 17 (KCNA) -- After illegally occupying Korea early in the last century, the Japanese imperialists had plundered many stone art works, precious heritages created by the Korean people down through generations.

Lots of pagodas showing the historical development of temple architecture were pillaged and destroyed due to the despicable and brigandish atrocities of the Japanese imperialists.

A Japanese, called Tanaka, openly plundered a marble 10-storied pagoda, the best of its kind dating back to Koryo (918-1392), in December 1906, telling a lie that King Kojong gave him it as a "souvenir".

In 1909, Araske Sone, the then "resident-general in Korea", ? took away to Japan a marble five-storied pagoda from a stone buddha grotto and Okura, a philistine, a five-storied octagonal pagoda from Pyongyang.

The Japanese imperialist aggressors even blasted pagodas to steal gold, silver, gilt-bronze image of Buddha, etc.

They also plundered and destroyed stone monuments. In the early days of their occupation of Korea, they conducted a "survey" of all stone monuments and made a book "Comprehensive Bibliography of Korean Stone Monuments" to use it in distortion of the Korean history and the colonial rule.

In 1906, they dug out the Monument to the Great Victory in Pukgwan, which was built in praise of the feats performed by the volunteers of Hamgyong Province during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598), and sent it to Tokyo secretly.

Such deeds were motivated by the Japanese imperialist robbers' sinister intention to stamp out the Korean people's patriotism and anti-Japanese sentiment and realize their aims for aggression on Korea.

The above-said facts clearly prove that the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists are the most hideous and unethical ones.
