Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un Gives Field Guidance to Construction of Pothong Riverside Terraced Residential District

Pyongyang, August 21 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, gave on-the-spot guidance to the construction of the Pothong Riverside Terraced Residential District. He was greeted on the spot by Jong Sang Hak, Jo Yong Won, Ri Hi Yong and other cadres of the Central Committee of the Party and commanding officers and leading officials of the units involved in the construction. The ideal street for people, a modern and peculiar one now under construction, took its shape on the bank of the River Pothong in just several months thanks to the devoted efforts of the builders waging an all-out charge of loyalty and fierce 24-7 campaign in order to brilliantly carry out the respected General Secretary's original plan for the building of the capital city and his lofty intention of "The People Are God". He learned about the construction of the district, looking round several places of the construction site. He said that the residential district, built with the land undulations left intact, looks nice, and that an example has been set in building terraced residential district with perfect architectural beauty on sloping ground. He added that this experience is of great significance in developing architecture under the specific conditions of the country where lots of dwelling houses have to be built nationwide, the most parts of which are mountainous areas, and in implementing our Party's policy of construction. The residential district should meet the main purpose of ensuring the convenience of residents, not just the aesthetic requirements, he said, adding that paths should be arranged and transport means should be allocated rationally so that the residents can walk straight down to use them without going round the residential district. He stressed it is important to ensure the high level of afforestation and greening in and around the residential district while giving final artistic touch to the retaining walls for the terraced residential district after carefully considering them from the viewpoint of architectural beauty. He said that the project must be pushed forward with as scheduled by taking timely measures for the supply of equipment and materials in keeping with the speed of the project getting faster. Saying that it is necessary to pay deep attention to sprucing up parks on the Pothong River to be more splendid, he stressed the need to take thorough-going sci-tech measures to further improve the quality of the river water. Emphasizing that the construction project is of importance in making Pyongyang City more modern and civilized, he called for speeding up the construction qualitatively to set it as a model of the urban housing construction. Calling for drafting a plan for urban construction with deep consideration before putting it into practice in order to raise the level of modernization and civilization of the capital city and other cities and towns, he underscored the need to plan and arrange buildings, facilities, roads, green spaces and all other elements from the viewpoint of interconnection so that the most convenient and hygienic environment can be provided for people. He also underlined the need to make the configurations of cities and towns diverse, attractive and unique to create features peculiar to each of them. Saying that it would be good to give to the district the administrative division name "Kyongru-dong" meaning a beautiful gem terrace, he gave an instruction for the relevant sector to deliberate on it. Expressing great satisfaction over the radial change brought about in the riverside area, making it totally different from how it was about 140 days ago, by the builders' patriotism and loyalty despite lack of everything and difficulties, he highly appreciated the labor feats of all the builders. |
