Pyongyang, September 7 (KCNA) -- Koreans in Japan held a memorial service in Tokyo, Japan on September 1 on the lapse of 98 years since the Japanese imperialists massacred innocent Koreans and inflicted untold pain upon them in the wake of the great quake that jolted the Kanto area. Attending the service were officials of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon) including So Chung On, director of the Department for International Affairs and Reunification of its Central Standing Committee, Ko Tok U, chairman of the Tokyo Metropolitan Headquarters of Chongryon, and other Koreans in Japan, Kiyoshi Nishizawa, representative of the Tokyo group for probing into the truth about the forcible drafting of Koreans, and other Japanese figures. The participants observed a moment's silence in memory of the Korean victims of the heinous genocide committed by the Japanese imperialists after the quake. Ko Tok U made a memorial address. He expressed deep condolence to the Koreans who met grievous deaths due to the unprecedented massacre perpetrated amid the widespread rumor about "Koreans' rioting" in the wake of the quake 98 years ago. He urged the Japanese authorities to probe into the truth behind the massacre, reflect on the past hideous crime and make apology and reparation for it. Then a memorial message from the Association of Korean Victims of Forcible Drafting and Their Bereaved Families of the DPRK was read out. The message said that the miserable deaths suffered by the Korean victims can be avenged only when the Japanese authorities atone for the past crimes against the Korean nation, stop unreasonable moves against the DPRK and Chongryon and treat Koreans in Japan properly. At the end of the service the participants laid bouquets and flowers in memory of the victims. |
