Lake Mugye, Natural Monument in DPRK
Pyongyang, September 10 (KCNA) -- Lake Mugye is in Orang County, North Hamgyong Province of the DPRK.

Its area is 1.8 square kilometers and the circumference is 8.5 kilometers. Its mean depth is 3.8 meters and the maximum depth is 7 meters.

Originally, the area around the lake was a bay, but the entrance of the bay was blocked by basalts that came from volcano and silt carried by river long ago.

The west shore of the lake is cliff, the east shore is slope land and the north and south shores are flatland. The water source of the lake is the water of Mugye Stream.

Living in the lake are carp, goldfish, dace, eel, etc.

As the lake is of academic significance in studying the change of sea and river distribution, it was registered as a natural monument.

Today, the lake has turned into a comprehensive warm water fish farming base and a cultural resort under the wise guidance of the Workers' Party of Korea.
