DPRK's Efforts for Protecting Ozone Layer
Pyongyang, September 16 (KCNA) -- The Montreal Protocol was adopted at an international conference held in Canada on September 16, 1987. The protocol stipulates the principles related to the use of substances that deplete the ozone layer.

The United Nations set this day as World Ozone Day.

On this occasion, Ri Kyong Su, an official of the DPRK Ministry of Land and Environment Protection, told KCNA:

The DPRK pays deep attention to the protection of ozone layer.

After signing the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol for protection of ozone layer in 1995 and the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol in 2017, our country has honestly implemented the international conventions in liaison with relevant international organizations.

The DPRK Law on Prevention of Air Pollution adopted in 2012 stipulates that institutions, enterprises, organizations and citizens should reduce to the maximum the production, import, sale and use of ozone depleting substances and the equipment and goods containing such substances and, in case of need, they should obtain the sanction from an institution for land and environment protection.

Our state has conducted activities for informing the relevant sectors of international trend related to the use of substitute refrigerants, technical problems arising in selecting and using refrigerants and common knowledge. Meanwhile, brisk activities were launched to introduce the substitute refrigerants and technology conducive to the protection of ozone layer and the prevention of global warming.

Our country will strive to discharge its national and international duties in the field of environmental protection so as to realize the people's desire to live in safe and clean surroundings.
