Emergency Measures Taken to Prevent Damage by Strong Wind and Hailstorm
Pyongyang, September 20 (KCNA) -- True to the intention of the Party that set it as a vital issue in attaining this year's goal of grain production to surmount disastrous abnormal weather, the agricultural sector of the DPRK is directing efforts to protecting the crops from damage by possible strong wind and hailstorm.

Officials of agricultural guidance organs at all levels, regarding it as a fait accompli to be inflicted by hailstorm, discussed the technical issues and have taken emergency measures to cope with it, while conducting powerful political work to arouse the popular masses to harvesting and threshing.

The Ministry of Agriculture is widely disseminating technical methods to prevent damage by strong wind and hailstorm and sending officials to rural areas to solve problems in time.

North Phyongan Province is tapping all efforts and means to obviate imperfection in preventing damage.

South Hwanghae Province steps up rice harvesting after examining the ripeness of rice.

Several counties of South Phyongan Province are speeding up the work to cord cornstalks in sheaves, while taking measures to harvest crops in the fields vulnerable to damage by hailstorms. And the units where rice harvesting began are tying rice in sheaves and piling them in an effective way.

North Hwanghae Province, Nampho City, etc. are properly cultivating unripe paddy rice to lower the loss.
