The national work to take care of the life and health of the aged was began in the period of building a new Korea after its liberation from Japan's colonial rule on August 15, 1945.

The policy for the care of the elderly has been further brilliantly executed in the country under the guidance of the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un who always shows deep care for the aged people's life. The aged are now leading a happy life under the people-oriented policies of the Workers' Party of Korea and the state.

Under the warm care of the General Secretary, sanatoriums for war veterans and homes for the aged were built wonderfully in different parts of the country.

The General Secretary made sure that celebrations and national conference of war veterans are held on the V-day (July 27) every year to glorify their heroic feats and spirit of defending the country and that the climate of respecting, holding up and according preferential treatment to the revolutionary forerunners is established as a fixed national custom.

Today, working people, youth and students of the DPRK regard it as their moral duty to call on the war veterans, who made the history of great victory in the war, on holidays, birthdays and Sundays and take warm care of their life with sense of gratitude.

Meanwhile, the war veterans and centenarians are given a regular medical check-up under the popular health policy.

Hwang Chol Ho, section chief of the Central Committee of the Korea Federation for the Care of the Aged, told KCNA that the social trait of treating the aged preferentially is running higher with the International Day of Older Persons as an occasion. Old people will enjoy special service at such restaurants and welfare service facilities across the country as Okryu and Chongryu restaurants in Pyongyang and Sinhung Restaurant in Hamhung, he added.
