DPRK Gives Importance to Standardization Work
Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK, it is the consistent principle of standardization work to develop the economy in a sustained way, provide the people with better living environment and convenience in the material and cultural life and contribute to the promotion of their health.

On the occasion of World Standards Day (October 14), Jo Kwang Rae, head of the State Standardization Institute, stressed this in an interview with KCNA.

Noting that a deep sci-theoretical and methodological study of the standardization work was made to set new standards this year, too, he said:

Tens of national standards for afforestation and environmental protection have been set to protect the people's lives and properties and the country's precious resources from disastrous abnormal weather.

In particular, the Institute set a standard on air, water and soil test method so that standardization could play an important role in conducting the land management and environmental protection work on a scientific basis.

It also presented lots of national standards to put the medical service on an IT basis and estimate the quality of medical service system.

It is the consistent target of our country's standardization work to ensure steady progress and innovation in all sectors of society, economy and environment so as to make the people lead a rich and civilized life in good health.

The DPRK became a full-fledged member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in June Juche 52 (1963).
