Central Botanical Garden in Pyongyang
Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- The Central Botanical Garden in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, is a scientific research and education base for promoting the development of the country's botany and disseminating the botanical knowledge.

According to Vice-Curator Kim Jin Sop, the Central Botanical Garden has been developed into a base greatly conducive to the country's botanical development and the people's cultural and emotional life under the wise guidance of the peerlessly great men.

President Kim Il Sung personally came to Mt Taesong to choose a site for the Central Botanical Garden on April 30, Juche 48 (1959) and energetically guided its construction to complete it wonderfully. Later, he visited it 10-odd times and gave vital instructions on more than 100 occasions to show the road ahead of it to follow. He also sent the plants cultivated by him at his residence and the gift plants he received from various countries on scores of occasions.

Chairman Kim Jong Il gave important instructions 100-odd times to indicate in detail the orientation and ways for sprucing up the Central Botanical Garden and provided books and modern equipment necessary for scientific research work to it.

As a result, it turned into a world-scale botanical garden with thousands of species of plants. The Central Botanical Garden covering an area of hundreds of hectares has the Kimilsungia Hothouse, Kimjongilia Hothouse, International Friendship Botanical House, Botanical Museum, Botanical Specimen House, plant classification district, ornamental forest district, plant resources district, arboretum, herbary, flower garden, rose garden, etc.

Over the past years, it has disseminated tens of millions of useful economic plants and garden plants throughout the country and brought out 150-odd kinds of books and other periodical publications on botany, thus contributing to the development of the country's botany.
