Scientific Research for Afforestation and Forest Conservation Pushed ahead
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- The Academy of Forest Science is pushing ahead with the research for putting afforestation and forest conservation on a new scientific foundation.

It conducted survey of soil conditions, inclination and tree species in different places of the country so as to make a breakthrough in research into working out the afforestation plan for estimating water retaining capacity of forests in relevant areas and minimizing flood damage.

It is stepping up the research on confirming the judgment method based on new indices and standard for assessing the forest ecological environment. It is also promoting the work for collecting basic data indispensable to the research through ecological observatory bases set up in various places of the country as scheduled.

Gaining momentum is the research into perfecting tree planting and tending methods to meet the geographical characteristics and actual conditions of the country.

While actively exploring the method for improving combination in oak forest after selecting two species of trees compatible with pine-nut trees, the Academy hastens at the final stage the research for the production of a growth stimulant which can ensure more than 90 percent of rooting rate of Larix lepolepis and over 1.2 times rise in its initial growth rate.

In addition, the scientific researches for performing other tasks for afforestaion and forest conservation are being intensified.
