Cultivation of High-yielding Blueberry Succeeded in DPRK
Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- In the DPRK, blueberry thrives by nature in the region north of 40 degrees North Latitude, especially in the area around Mt Paektu, 41 degrees North Latitude.

Recently, a research group succeeded in cultivating a high-yielding blueberry in the areas south of 40 degrees North Latitude.

Ri Yong Hwan, director of the Forest and Plant Engineering Institute under the Academy of Forest Science, said:

The new species of blueberry can grow even in South Hwanghae Province and Kaesong, areas north of the 38th parallel.

It can be cultivated in the middle part of Korea with height of below 600 meters above the sea level and above ten degrees centigrade of the annual mean temperature.

The new blueberry is not inferior to the original one in fruit taste and nutrition and can yield more than 10 tons of fruit per hectare.

Tens of thousands of blueberry trees have already been planted in Pyongyang and other regions south of the middle part of Korea.
