The task facing the metal industrial sector advanced at the Congress is to technologically perfect the Juche-based system of producing iron, expand the capacity and radically increase the iron and steel production.

Workers in the metal industrial sector have made progress in the work to consolidate the independent foundation under the banner of Juche orientation with a mind to carry out the tasks for the first year of the new five-year plan without fail.

The Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex introduced PLC control system into the system of 20-ton oxygen converter to ensure the scientific accuracy of steel production and finished the general overhaul of oxygen heat blast furnace in a short period by developing high quality welding electrode on its own, thus contributing to putting the iron and steel production on a normal basis.

The Chollima Steel Complex opened a bright prospect for substantial advance by launching such works to boost the production as hastening the repair of electric furnaces like the UHP electric arc furnace and introducing the oxygen and coal injection technology.

The Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex has increased the daily molten iron production 1.5 times on the average as against last year by shortening the melting time and introducing the advanced technology and provided a foundation for the production of quality rolled steel by applying new converting technology.

Meanwhile, iron mines have pushed ahead with the repair and technical updating of production equipment as well as the development of mine fields to increase the production capacity of iron ore.
