In February that year, Chairman Kim Jong Il was on the road of ceaseless field guidance for building a thriving nation.

In one day alone, the Chairman guided the work of South Hamgyong Province in eastern part of the country. He visited the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex and solved all the problems arising in establishing an ammonia production process by bituminous coal gasification. Then he examined a layout of the central part of Hamhung City, a master plan for substructure of Hamhung City and a prospective plan for Hamhung Youth Power Station and even watched an art performance given by the art squad of a Korean People's Army unit and a music and dance performance by artistes of the South Hamgyong Provincial Art Troupe.

That night, he left for the Rakwon General Machine Enterprise in the western part of the country without letup in order to solve the issue of a large-sized oxygen separator badly needed for fertilizer production. He made a journey of more than 400 kilometers all night to visit it.

The next day, he arrived at the enterprise and heard a report that its working class already got down to the technical calculation and preparation for producing two large-sized oxygen separators simultaneously. He expressed his pleasure over the detailed operation plan.

Then, he left the enterprise within the day to visit Wonsan in the eastern part of the country as well as the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, the Ranam Coal-mining Machine Complex and the Musan Mining Complex and Hoeryong City, Manpho City and the area at the foot of Mt Paektu in the northern part.
