Kim Kon Il, Famous Composer of DPRK
Pyongyang, December 21 (KCNA) -- People's Artist Kim Kon Il is a famous composer of the DPRK. In Juche 81 (1992), he composed both the words and music for the song "Ode to Comrade Kim Jong Il", an all-people hymn of the Republic.

Kim Kon Il is the son of Kim Won Gyun, a winner of the Order of Kim Il Sung and Kim Il Sung Prize and the titles of DPRK Labor Hero and People's Artist who composed the immortal revolutionary hymn "Song of General Kim Il Sung" (1946) and "The Patriotic Song" (1947), the national anthem of the DPRK.

When he started his career as a composer, he asked his father about the secret of composing hymns praising the leader. At that time, his father Kim Won Gyun said that a composer should get fully ready in mind to vividly reflect the feelings of admiration and respect of all the people absolutely trusting and following their leader.

Being active as a composer at the Mansudae Art Troupe for a long time, Kim Kon Il made his mind to create a hymn praising Chairman Kim Jong Il who glorifies the dignity of the country and nation to the world, in reflection of the minds of all the Korean people.

So, he completed the all-people hymn "Ode to Comrade Kim Jong Il" through his energetic creation activities. On his deathbed, he requested his children to play this song.

The songs created by him are very popular among the people.
