Korean Nation's Custom on Winter Solstice Day
Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- Some days ago, contests of cooking adzuki-bean gruel on the winter solstice took place at public catering establishments in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK.

The participants showed well their high standard of cooking and mystiques they obtained in the course of service activities.

Adzuki-bean gruel is a national food that the Korean people like to eat on Winter Solstice Day, the 22nd of the 24 seasonal divisions according to the lunar calendar that falls on about 21st-22nd of December.

From long ago, the Korean ancestors observed the Winter Solstice Day cheerfully. On the day, people looked back upon the past days of the year and promoted friendly relations with neighbors, sharing the adzuki-bean gruel.

Winter Solstice Day of this year is December 22.

The Korean nation's custom of taking adzuki-bean gruel on the winter solstice was listed as a national intangible heritage in Juche 105 (2016).
