They made research achievements conducive to successfully carrying out the first-year tasks of the new five-year plan set forth at the 8th Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, through a brisk campaign of intelligence and brains, and greatly contributed to the education of the rising generations.

The title of Academician went to Kim Il Gwang, a researcher of Kim Il Sung University, Pak Yong Thaek, director of an institute of Kim Chaek University of Technology, Chae Hyok Gi, an academic adviser to Pyongyang University of Computer Science, and Ri Ki Song, a researcher of the Academy of Social Sciences, and the title of Candidate Academician to Pak Song Ho and Pak Ho Nam, researchers of Kim Il Sung University, Hyon Song Chol and Ri Mu Chol, section chiefs of Kim Chaek University of Technology, Kim Il Hwan, a researcher of Kim Hyong Jik University of Education, Kim Kol, a researcher of the University of Sciences, Section Chief Kim Chang Gyong and researchers Kim Hyok Mo and Choe Sun Ok of the Academy of Social Sciences, Ri Thae Nam, a researcher of the Academy of Agricultural Science, and Cha Ki Chol, president of the Pedagogical Institute.

Professorship was conferred on 29 persons including Vice-President Jong Man Ho and Department Heads Kim Man Ho, Kang Jin U, Ri Hyok and Ho Chol Man and Director of an institute Pak Hui Chol of Kim Il Sung University, Deputy Dean of a faculty Kim Sun and teacher Paek Sok of Kim Hyong Jik University of Education.

Doctorate went to 127 persons including Department Head Kim Un Chol and Director of an institute Ri Kum Chol of Kim Il Sung University, Dean of a faculty Kim Kyong Ho and Director of an institute So Yong Guk of Kim Chaek University of Technology.

268 persons received associate professorship and 1,307 master's degree.
