Hot springs are mainly distributed in North and South Phyongan, South Hwanghae, Kangwon and North Hamgyong provinces and their total number reaches several dozens.

Among them are Paektu hot spring efficacious for neuralgia, hot springs in Yangdok County with high pharmacological action and curative value and Ongjin hot spring with high water temperature and good for the treatment of various diseases like digestive troubles. They are well known throughout the country.

In particular, Unsan hot spring is efficacious for female disorders.

As Kyongsong hot spring gushes out through thick sand layer and bath with this sand is good for the treatment, it is called sand hot spring.

Phyongnam, Naegok, Kumgangsan, Samchon and some other hot springs were registered as natural monuments.
