Peasant Heroes Remembered by Korean People
Pyongyang, January 7 (KCNA) -- The Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea stressed the importance of the issue of firmly arming agricultural workers with not only the Party's revolutionary idea and policy but also the fighting spirit of the peasant heroes and patriotic farmers whose names are recorded in the annals of the Korean revolution.

The peasant heroes and patriotic farmers are recorded in the history of the Korean revolution for their distinguished contributions to the country's agricultural production.

The first peasant hero is Kim Je Won who pioneered the movement of donating cereals to the country.

He had been a tenant living in distress under the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule. He was given the farmland of 3,300 phyong (1 phyong=3.954 sq yds) free of charge after national liberation (August 15, 1945), the fulfillment of his lifelong wish to farm his own land. He had a good harvest in Juche 35 (1946) and donated 30 straw-bags of rice to the country out of patriotism.

Following him, all other farmers of the country turned out as one in the patriotic movement.

Hero Rim Kun Sang is still remembered by the Korean people as a farmer who reaped a good harvest during the Fatherland Liberation War in the 1950s.

True to the appeal of the Party inspiring the people to increase cereal production during the war, he manufactured various farm implements by himself and dedicated himself to farming. Thus, he had a big harvest and donated 19 straw-bags of rice to the country.

Hero An Tal Su, called a doctor of farming, put his heart and soul into supporting the Party and the country with grain production for a long time.

Today, all the agricultural workers in the DPRK are fully determined to reap a bumper harvest this year at any cost by fulfilling the responsibility for replenishing the granary of the country like the peasant heroes of the preceding generations.
