Achievements Made in Research into High-Yielding Crop Strains
Pyongyang, January 22 (KCNA) -- Officials and researchers of the Ryanggang Provincial Institute of Agricultural Science have concentrated efforts on the research to produce and improve crop seeds that can ensure high yield in the unfavorable alpine climate.

The researchers produced a new species of potato suitable for the production of potato farina and seed wheat and barley with strong resistance to rainy wind.

They perfected the research on a new species of soybean, which has much oil and protein content and can ensure stable yield in areas more than one thousand meters above sea level.

Meanwhile, they are engaged in tackling the sci-tech problems arising in selecting, propagating and cultivating varieties of fruit trees with strong cold resistance and good taste.

The institute is now deepening the research on development and introduction of various plant growth stimulants and nutrients made from mineral resources in the province.
