Positive Effort for Development of Education
Pyongyang, January 24 (KCNA) -- The UN General Assembly in 2018 set January 24 as International Day of Education with the purpose of arousing the social interest in educational work.

The DPRK has striven to ensure the rapid development of education in keeping with the demand of the age of knowledge-based economy.

In the country, there is the most advantageous educational system whereby everyone can fully enjoy the right to education.

"Theses on Socialist Education", published by President Kim Il Sung on September 5, Juche 66 (1977), is the great programme for the Juche-oriented education that opened a new chapter in the country's history of education.

The theses define it as the purpose of socialist education to train the people into communist revolutionary talents with independence and creativity. Also expounded are all the problems arising in the educational work ranging from the basic principle of pedagogy to the contents and methods of the socialist education.

Over the past tens years after the start of the new century of Juche, remarkable progress has been made in the country's education.

The universal compulsory 12-year education was enforced in April 2014 to improve the secondary general education and develop in depth the universal compulsory 11-year education, which had been enforced in an overall way for the first time in the world from September 1975.

Pyongyang Teachers Training College turned into a model school of the country whose educational work is conducted on a scientific, IT and modern basis of higher level. New buildings, laboratory halls, gymnasiums and dormitories were built at many universities and colleges, whereas new schools suited to the demands of pedagogy came into being in different parts of the country to actively promote the radical improvement in education in the new century.

To turn the country into a socialist power of education in the 21st century by making all the people well versed in science and technology was set as a target for improving the education in the new century, and work for realizing it has been conducted steadily and effectively on a nationwide and social scale. A Korean-style peculiar tele-education system was established and a national network for dissemination of science and technology was built up on a regular basis. And sci-tech learning spaces were formed to help the working people acquire sci-tech knowledge to the full.

The Educational Books Printing Plant was modernly reconstructed and the Mindulle Notebook Factory and Ryongbong and Sonamu school things factories were built as models of the school things producers to put the production of quality textbooks and school things on a normal basis.
