Blackish Copper Censer of Koryo
Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The Korean people with high creative talent and wisdom have made many excellent cultural treasures from olden times.

Among them is a blackish copper censer dating back to Koryo (918-1392), which is well-known to the world for its peculiar material, graceful shape and delicate pattern decoration.

Blackish copper has a property of fastness. Taking advantage of its physical properties, artisans of Koryo used in general blackish copper to make censer instead of bronze, which is easily oxidized from heat.

The blackish copper censer is appraised as a masterpiece representing the metallic industrial art of Koryo with its safe and harmonious form, various patterns and peculiar decorative technique.

High technique of Koryo's industrial art can be well known through the blackish copper censer of Singye Temple preserved at the Korean Central History Museum.

The censer, made in 1352, is 44 centimeters in diameter of mouth part, 45 centimeters in height, 29 centimeters in diameter of low part and 0.7 centimeters in thickness.

It is the excellent one among the remaining blackish copper censers.
