Swamp Protection and Its Sustained Use Brisk in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 2 (KCNA) -- Korea surrounded by the seas on the three sides and which abounds in rivers, streams and lakes has not a few swampy land.

Swampy land plays an important role in ecosystem and environmental preservation as it offers water resources, protects bio-diversity, adjusts climate and clears environment.

Brisk activities are under way in the DPRK for swamp protection and its sustained use.

A department director of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection when interviewed by a journalist on the occasion of the World Swamp Day said there is nationwide investigation into swampy land and its protection.

He said that "List of Swampy Land in DPRK" recording more than 50 typical swampy land in our country was published in Juche 107(2018) to be used for swamp protection and management.

In September 2020, swamp-related articles were supplemented to the Nature Reserve Law of the DPRK, enabling the better protection and management of swampy land.

In May last year there was ecological and environmental investigation including investigation into types of swampy land and animal and plant resources in swampy land. The investigation into other swampy land will continue this year, too.

Video introducing the Mundok Migratory Bird Reserve (swampy land) and pictorial "Swampy land in Rason" also contribute to knowledge of swampy land.

The DPRK acceded to the Convention on Swampy Land in May 2018.

The Mundok Migratory Bird Reserve (swampy land) and the Rason Migratory Bird Reserve (swampy land) are first to have been added to the internationally important swamp list (Ramsar site) in our country.
