The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has steadily advanced and demonstrated its might to the world with the firm guarantee for peace and prosperity, despite any challenge. This would have been unthinkable without the Day of Army Founding recorded in the history of the Juche-oriented revolution.

The heroic KPA won the brilliant victory in the three-year fierce Fatherland Liberation War in the 1950s and has reliably defended the country and the people, justice and peace for decades. It is a great pride of the Republic to have such heroic KPA.

In the past the Korean people had been subjected to the miserable lot of an enslaved nation as they had no powerful army. So, it was their earnest desire to have a strong national army.

Their cherished desire was realized at last, thanks to the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung.

The President, who achieved the historic cause of Korea's liberation on August 15, 1945 by leading the anti-Japanese revolutionary war to victory, put forward the founding of a powerful regular army as an essential for building an independent and sovereign state and pushed ahead with the cause of army building.

He clarified the Juche-based army building idea that calls for building regular armed forces by Koreans themselves and the ways for carrying it into practice. And he had made all his efforts to train the backbone of the regular army and lay a foundation for the self-reliant national defence industry, dispatching anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters to different parts of the country and establishing the centers for training military and political cadres.

Thanks to his energetic leadership, the KPA, the revolutionary regular armed forces inheriting the traditions created in the anti-Japanese war, was founded on Feb. 8, Juche 37 (1948).

With the birth of the Juche-oriented regular army, the DPRK could emerge on the international arena as a dignified people's country having its own strong armed forces from the first day of its foundation.
