Chairman Kim Jong Il's Birthplace in Paektusan Secret Camp
Pyongyang, February 11 (KCNA) -- The feelings of the Korean people are now directed toward Chairman Kim Jong Il's birthplace in the Paektusan Secret Camp with the approach of his 80th birth anniversary.

The secret camp was built by President Kim Il Sung as a central stronghold for leading the Korean revolution in the latter half of the 1930s when he guided the anti-Japanese revolutionary war. It was also used by the main force of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army under his command as a pivotal secret base.

The Chairman was born at a low-roofed log cabin in the camp on February 16, Juche 31 (1942).

The log cabin, still preserved with much care, is located at the foot of Jong Il Peak, surrounded by snowy spruces.

Visitors are fascinated by the snowy landscape, one of the eight famous scenes of the Sobaeksu Valley. They can also see slogans written on the surface of barked trees, which were left by anti-Japanese revolutionary fighters to inform the people of the birth of the Shining Star of Mt Paektu.

During his visit to the secret camp in March 2000, the Chairman said that the revolutionary battle site covered with snow was really spectacular.
