National Sketch and Calligraphy Festival Opens in DPRK

Pyongyang, February 12 (KCNA) -- A national sketch and calligraphy festival was opened with due ceremony as part of the national art festival "Career of Patriotic Devotion" for celebrating the Day of the Shining Star, the birth anniversary of Chairman Kim Jong Il. Seen at the venue of the festival is an art piece depicting President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il watching the calligraphy of a schoolgirl. On Display are hundreds of pieces of art works in diverse themes including sketches made by professionals and amateurs and calligraphic works depicting famous sentences and lines of poems in a mellowed style. There are also art works dealing with the reverence of all the people across the country for Kim Jong Il who led the socialist cause of Juche only to victory. Among the art works are those depicting young people who volunteer to work in the difficult and labor-consuming fields in response to the call of the Party and happy looks of children. An opening ceremony took place at the Okryu Exhibition Hall on Feb. 11. Attending it were Jo Kyong Jun, vice department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Mun Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, Kim Song Min, chairman of the Central Committee of the Artists Union of Korea, officials concerned, creators and working people in Pyongyang City. Minister of Culture Sung Jong Gyu made an opening address. |
