Agricultural Sector Strives for Increased Grain Production
Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- Agricultural workers in the DPRK strive for an increased yield of more than one ton of grain per hectare this year, true to the decisions of the 4th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

After making a detailed analysis of last year's farming experience and lessons, the Agricultural Commission set such issues as introducing new high-yielding species, applying advanced farming methods in an all-round way as important links for hitting the increased production goal and has carried them into practice under a scrupulous plan.

All provincial, city and county organs for agricultural guidance concentrate efforts on introducing high-yielding strains, which need less fertilizer and are short in growth term and strong in resistance to various disasters, in accordance with regional conditions.

South Hwanghae Province, the biggest agricultural province in the country, set it as a vital issue for increased grain production per hectare to select good crop species and define right soil for their cultivation and has directed a primary attention to it.

Farms in North Phyongan Province are pushing ahead with the work to introduce the advanced farming technology and methods. In particular, they have promoted the production of organic compound fertilizer.

Agricultural workers in South Hamgyong Province are focusing efforts on acquiring new land, while restoring the damaged arable lands.

Those in North Hwanghae Province, bearing deep in mind the significance and importance of increasing the fertility of soil, dig earth out of ponds and rivers around arable lands and deliver it to fields with thin soil depth and less humus content in order to improve the farm fields.

Kangwon Province has directed efforts to overhauling the farm machines and manufacturing new efficient farm machines, after finding the reserves for increased grain production in raising the operation rate of farm machines.
