Players and coaches of the April 25 Sports Team, the Amnokgang Sports Team, the Amnokgang Defence Sports Team and other professional sports organizations will take part in the sports games.

Competitions in 470-odd categories of 27 events such as football, basketball, volleyball and weightlifting are to take place in 13 cities and counties (districts), including Pyongyang City, Sinuiju City of North Phyongan Province, Yangdok County of South Phyongan Province and Hamju County of South Hamgyong Province.

There was an opening ceremony at the Basketball Gymnasium in Chongchun Street of Pyongyang on April 1.

Attending it were Kim Song Ryong, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Ri Tu Song, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and vice-chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, officials concerned and sports persons.

Kim Il Guk, minister of Physical Culture and Sports, made an opening address at the ceremony.

The sports games continue till April 29.
