Those intellectuals have achieved research successes substantially conducive to the development of the national economy and the improvement of people's living standard by dedicating themselves to the scientific research for accelerating the implementation of the five-year plan set forth at the 8th Party Congress and tangibly contributed to the education of the rising generations.

Professorship went to 13 persons, including Kong Yong Su, dean of a faculty of Kim Il Sung University, Jo Yong Nam, a teacher at the same university, Kim Hyo Yong, a researcher at Kim Chaek University of Technology, Choe Hye Yong, vice-director of Pyongyang University of Medicine, and Ri An Guk, a researcher at the Hamhung Branch of the State Academy of Sciences.

Doctorate was conferred on 72 persons, including Ri Su Yong, vice department director of Kim Il Sung University, Ri Kum Song, head of a department of Kim Chol Ju University of Education, Kim Un Gyong, a teacher of Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, Kim Jong Chol, head of a department of Korea University of Physical Education, Hwang Myong Do, vice-rector of Pyongyang University of Publishing and Printing, and Ko Hyong Son, rector of Phyongsong Teacher Training College.

Associate professorship went to 102 persons and master's degree to 1, 060.
