Relic from Koryo Period (918-1932) Found in DPRK

| Pyongyang, April 14 (KCNA) -- Archaeologists of the Academy of Social Sciences in the DPRK have recently found a carved Buddhist image in Chongjong ri, Unjon County of North Phyongan Province. The image of Buddha was carved on the south face of a rock on a hillside, a few kilometers northeast of the seat of Chongjong ri. The longish rock is five meters high. And the carved image of Buddha is 4.7 meters high and its prop is 4.2 meters wide. Before founding this large carved image of Buddha, some small metal statues of Buddha were discovered in Kwaksan County and Sinuiju and Jongju cities of the province. This carved image of Buddha shows the wisdom and talents of the Korean ancestors. |
