Kim Tok Hun, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, vice-president of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, guided the meeting.

Attending the meeting were vice-premiers Pak Jong Gun and Jon Hyon Chol and other members of the Cabinet.

Present as observers were officials of institutions directly under the Cabinet and ministries, chairpersons of the provincial, city and county people's committees and officials of agricultural guidance organs and major industrial establishments.

The meeting reviewed the fulfillment of the national economic plan for the first quarter of the year in thoroughly implementing the decisions of the 4th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Party Central Committee and discussed measures for carrying out the national economic plan for the first half of the year.

Pak Jong Gun, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the State Planning Commission, made a report.

He said that every sector and unit of the national economy have directed efforts to thoroughly carrying out the national economic plan with firm viewpoint on it and thus made successes in fulfilling the plan, relying on the might of talents and by dint of science and technology.

Analyzing and reviewing with facts the shortcomings and deviations revealed by some units in fulfilling their plans for the first quarter of the year, he called for further intensifying the struggle against the misdeeds including formalism and self-protection in implementing the economic policy.

He also called for thoroughly ensuring the fulfillment of the plan for the second quarter of the year by meticulously conducting economic operation and command to promote and amplify the achievements and experiences gained in the course of the campaign in the first quarter of the year and positively searching and mobilizing potentials for development.

Referring in detail to the experiences and lessons drawn from the work in the first quarter of the year, speakers expressed their determinations to fulfill their responsibility and duty in the struggle for glorifying this year as a year of great revolutionary auspicious events to be recorded in the history of the country and a year of fresh victory dynamically advancing towards the overall development of our own style of socialism.

The meeting referred to the issue of effectively pushing ahead with adjustment and reinforcement as planned and paying primary efforts to the development of science and technology, the issue of making ministries, national institutions, provincial, city and county people's committees and agricultural guidance organs mobilize all forces and means for farming including rice-transplanting and weeding and took relevant measures.
