Mt Ryongak in Pyongyang
Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- Mt Ryongak is situated in Mangyongdae District of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK.

The mountain, formed in the Mesozoic era one hundred million and tens of millions of years ago, has been called "Mt Kumgang in Pyongyang" for its exquisite shape that looks like a dragon about to soar and for its excellent beauty.

It, housing more than 20 peaks and scores of valleys, is a home to over 600 species of flora. Most of them are pine forests and mixed forests of pine and oak trees, and various trees listed as natural monuments in the DPRK can also be found there together with rare plants.

Crystal clear and cold spring water gushes from a rock crack on the hillside the year round.

The mountain also houses Popun Temple, one of the oldest temples in the country.

The mountain is a scenic place from where one can feast one's eyes with beautiful scenery of Pyongyang and the countryside.

Chairman Kim Jong Il visited Ryongaksan Pleasure Park in January Juche 98(2009) and climbed to Tae Peak, the highest spot of the mountain. He gave teachings for the management and operation of the park, saying that Mt Ryongak is not only beautiful but it is where one can have an excellent view.
