May Day Marked in DPRK

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The working people in the DPRK enjoyed May Day, the international holiday of the working people the world over. At the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the sacred temple of Juche where President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il lie in state, the visitors paid deep respects to the portraits of smiling Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. Officials and working people laid floral baskets, bouquets and flowers at the statues of the President and the Chairman and mosaics picturing their smiling images on Mansu Hill and in other parts of the country before making bows to them. Officials of the Party and power organs across the country enjoyed May Day together with the working people. There took place colorful sports and amusement games at the industrial establishments and co-op farms, including the Pyongyang Trolley Bus Factory, the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, the February 8 Vinalon Complex, the Jenam Coal Mine and the Unjong Vegetable Cooperative Farm in Kanggye City. A horse-riding game revved up the festive mood in Hamhung City. Colorful performances were given at theatres and outdoor stages in the capital city of Pyongyang to enhance the working people's enthusiasm for the revolution and struggle. The National Folk Art Troupe, the Phibada Opera Troupe and the Central Art Squad for Agitation for Increased Production and others gave performances in different parts of the city, including the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, Songhwa Street and the Hwasong area where the construction of 10, 000 flats is going on. Art performances were also given in North and South Hwanghae and Jagang provinces, Kaesong City and other regions. |
