The President toured Kaesong City on May 5, Juche 81 (1992) and told officials it was a mistake that they had not developed Songgyungwan into a university, although it is an educational institution with the longest history in the world. And he personally named it Koryo Songgyungwan University.

Saying that it is insignificant to turn Songgyungwan into a museum, explaining it was the supreme educational institution of Koryo, he called for developing Songgyungwan into a university of light industry.

Noting that it is the pride of the nation to have had such state-run supreme educational institution more than 1, 000 years ago, he chose faculties in keeping with the characteristics of the university.

He took a step for building Koryo Songgyungwan University and personally wrote "Koryo Songgyungwan University" on a signboard.

The Chairman said that Songgyungwan is a precious historical relic of national value. He gave instructions for faculties, subjects and orientation of the building of the university more than 10 times and sent the educational equipment and educational cultural facilities to the university as presents.

Under the loving care of the President and the Chairman, Koryo Songgyungwan University with long history has developed into a scientific complex with several faculties, many subjects, laboratories and a practice factory.
