New Cave Relics Discovered in Pyongyang
Pyongyang, May 11 (KCNA) -- A study group of the History Faculty of Kim Il Sung University discovered a cave dating back to the Paleolithic Age in Rimgyong Workers' District in Kangdong County of Pyongyang City and intensified the research into the relics to scientifically unravel them in the DPRK.

They discovered the natural cave and started unearthing it.

They discovered seven human (Neolithic man) fossils, more than 300 fossil animal bones of nine kinds and 274 spore and pollen fossils in the cultural layer of the Paleolithic Age.

They measured them by using electron spin resonance to confirm that these relics are 23, 000 years ago with a margin of error of 3, 000 and unraveled that the human fossils belong to a woman in her thirties who lived in the latter period of the Paleolithic Age.

The Archaeology Society of the DPRK examined the fossils and named the human fossils "Kangdong person" according to the name of the area.

According to the examination of the Non-permanent Tangible Heritage Examination and Appraisal Committee and the decision of the Cabinet, the Rimgyong Cave relics were registered as preservation relics.

The first discovery of the "Kangdong person" on a par with Neolithic man at the Kangdong area of Pyongyang, where Tangun, the ancestral father of the Korean nation, is buried, is of great significance in anthropologically clarifying that people had lived in this area since the dawn of human civilization, creating time-honored history and culture.
