Successes Made in Agriculture of DPRK
Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- In the countryside of the DPRK, rice seedlings have been transplanted in hundreds of thousands of hectares of paddy fields and the work to prevent drought damage promoted successfully.

Officials of the Agricultural Commission and agricultural guidance organs at all levels carried on scrupulous organization and guidance on the immediate farm work.

South Hwanghae Province maximized the operational rate of rice-transplanting machines and ensured the prescribed number of hills per phyong and number of plant per hill.

North Phyongan Province speeded up the rice-transplanting in a responsible manner.

Agricultural workers in all other areas of the country pushed ahead with the rice-transplanting as planned by carpeting farm fields with good compost and giving precedence to tilling paddy fields, storing water for the rice fields and harrowing fields in time.

Signal progress was made in the campaign against drought.

After learning in detail about the farm fields vulnerable to drought damage, cooperative farms swiftly tapped manpower, carriage means and pumps. They actively introduced the effective watering methods and took technical measures to improve the nutritive condition of crops.

Ministries and national institutions concentrated all forces and means on preventing damage from drought and government officials joined the agricultural workers in transplanting rice seedlings.

Art troupes encouraged the agricultural workers and volunteers through on-the-spot agit-prop activities.
