Pyongyang, June 4 (KCNA) -- It is 85 years since the Battle of Pochonbo, which left a distinctive trace in the history of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle. Pochonbo, once a small town in the northern end of Korea at that time, was near the border and, it was one of the hubs in the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule and plundering. President Kim Il Sung organized and guided the battle on July 4, Juche 26 (1937) in order to deliver a heavy political and military blow to the Japanese imperialist aggressors and instill the confidence in national liberation into the Korean people. When he fired his pistol into the air, members of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army assaulted and smashed the Japanese imperialists' government organs in a moment and won the battle. At the end of the battle, the President said in a historic speech to the crowds that those flames of battle demonstrated to the world that the Korean nation was not dead but alive and if they fought against the brigandish Japanese imperialists, they would be sure to win. On the heels of the battle, a large force of the enemy chased the KPRA. But the President used superb tactics to batter the Japanese invaders in Mt Kouyushui and Jiansanfeng, thus displaying the invincible might of the KPRA and ensuring the victory of the advance into the homeland. The flames of Pochonbo were a declaration of the Korean nation's spirit that those who occupied the country would not go unpunished, the national dignity that no Korean would live as slaves of others, and the great leader's strong belief that when the entire nation fight united as one, victory is certain. Since the historic day, the Korean revolution has advanced verifying the great truth. The Korean people achieved national liberation (August 15, 1945) and the brilliant victory of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953) and emerged victorious in the postwar reconstruction and then socialist construction. In the whole process, they had made epochal creations and leaps out of their strong national dignity. Today they are opening up a broad avenue for the building of a powerful socialist country that prospers by dint of self-reliance despite manifold challenges. |
