President Kim Il Sung's Patriotic Devotion
Pyongyang, July 9 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung had long cultivated a combined experimental plot near his residence to deeply study the growth of various crops and useful plants.

He sowed newly made cold-beds with rice seeds he himself secured in the spring of Juche 52 (1963), watered and weeded them by himself to observe the growth of the rice and summoned farmers to his residence to teach them its features and cultivating methods in August 1964.

When he called the leading officials of the agricultural sector to his residence in October 1967, he picked up a bean plant cultivated on his own to count the number of beans while instructing them to supply the people with enough non-staple food.

When giving his field guidance to Wonsan University of Agriculture in the post-war period, the President saw a walnut tree that survived the U.S. imperialists' bombing and naval shelling and took a measure to widely propagate the tree of high economic value.

Afterwards, he planted it in his garden and gave an instruction to plant it in northern mountainous areas of the country to observe its growth in different weather conditions and even solve the scientific and technological problems arising in its cultivation.

A persimmon tree, which was known to be cultivated exclusively in the Anbyon area of Kangwon Province and the region south of Pyoksong area of South Hwanghae Province, now grows here and there and a fruit tree that the President received as a gift from a foreign country became familiar to the people along with its name "Pyongyang White Apricot". It would have been unthinkable without his garden.

He also tended an oil-bearing chestnut tree even at his leisure and acclimatized an Evodia daniellii tree to cultivate it in more areas.

In addition, he cultivated the plants to be used as animal feeds and raised even chickens in his garden.

He was, indeed, the great paragon of humanity and benevolent father of the people who dedicated himself to the people's happiness.
