The institute is one of Chairman Kim Jong Il's precious bequests as it was founded and named by him.

After its birth on July 22, Juche 71 (1982), the institute has contributed to the construction of edifices with value of national treasure across the country by completing more than 2,000 designs of important objects and solving lots of sci-tech problems arising in architectural creation.

The Chairman visited the institute on several occasions, gave teachings to it hundreds of times and took measures to provide its designers, architects and researchers with better working and living conditions. Under his loving care, the institute could become a prestigious architectural creation and research group.

The institute entered the golden age of its development under the distinguished and seasoned leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

Over the past years, it has presented tens of books on architectural technologies, many articles on architectural science and hundreds of national standards on designing to contribute to the development of the country's architectural science.

It also produced hundreds of recipients of national orders and holders honorary titles and academic degrees.
