Samdaem Psammotherapy of Kaesong Area
Pyongyang, August 6 (KCNA) -- The Samdaem psammotherapy (sand-bath) is one of the customs handed down among people of the Kaesong area since olden times.

"Samdaem" means the dune in the Mami Streamlet, four kilometers away from the heart of Kaesong City.

The sand contains various minerals such as Mg, Fe, Cu, Si, Mn, Ca, and the water flowing towards the sandpit contains various elements that are medically effective.

The Samdaem psammotherapy is efficient in treating various illnesses such as neuralgia, arthritis, chronic gastritis, athlete's foot, eczema, arteriosclerosis and chronic bronchitis.

It is known that bathing in the sand during the hottest period of summer for three times is especially effective.

Recently, a sanatorium was built in this area.

The Samdaem psammotherapy was registered as a local intangible cultural heritage in Juche 105 (2016).
