Measures Taken to Promptly Cope with Natural Disasters
Pyongyang, August 7 (KCNA) -- Measures are being taken to prevent the damages by heavy rain in Ryanggang Province of the DPRK, true to the idea of the Workers' Party of Korea on preventing natural disasters in advance.

A drive to minimize the damage to crops due to abnormal weather is being conducted in the rural places of the province.

Working people in Samjiyon City, Taehongdan County and Paekam County are deeply plowing the potato fields according to field conditions after digging drainage canals extending hundreds of kilometers.

Samsu and Pochon counties are taking measures to prevent the damages to potato plants from moisture by cutting off the grass on the edges of fields.

Working people in Hyesan City dredged several rivers and finished the reinforcement of embankments in thousands of meters-long sections.

Paekam and Kapsan counties are increasing the water passing capability by putting efforts to river improvement projects, and the forestry stations and mine timber production stations under the Province Forestry Management Bureau completed the projects for retaining walls and clearing out the ditches at dangerous spots on the mountainous roads and forest railways.

Kim Hyong Gwon County is ensuring the security of roads and the convenience of traffic by setting up safety walls at hundreds of places, and Kim Jong Suk County is intensively improving the roads according to road conditions.

Officials and workers of the electrical power industrial sector in the province are putting water control on a scientific basis while taking measures to protect the hydraulic structures and power generation, transmission and transformation equipment from the damage by heavy rain and thunderbolts.
