The song whose creation was personally initiated by President Kim Il Sung and which was completed under his meticulous guidance, makes all our people full of patriotic ardor to devote themselves heart and soul to the prosperity of socialist Korea.

After the liberation of the country in Juche 34(1945), the President initiated the creation of "The Patriotic Song" and one day in September the following year, he met writers and composers.

That day, he said that our country is a very beautiful country and our people are talented and strong-willed ones with a long history of five thousand years and brilliant culture.

The song should therefore contain the national pride and self-confidence of the Korean people living in a beautiful country with the wise tradition of struggle, he said, instructing them to provide our people who became the masters of the country with a song proud of our motherland, the national anthem.

Later, he gave scrupulous guidance on the words of the song pointing at them line by line.

He advised the creators to repeat the refrain of the song once more which he thought would improve both the effect of melody and harmony of music, adding it would make the song sound more solemn and the singers feel greater national pride and self-confidence.

It is how "The Patriotic Song" came into being in the world.

Now "The Patriotic Song" is resounding far and wide as the immortal hymn of the motherland with the splendid spirit of the great Korea of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il led by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
