Many people saw the games of Ssirum, the Korean version of wrestling, at the site.

Mural paintings of the Ssirum Tomb and Jangchon Tomb No. 1 dating back to the Koguryo Dynasty show that it was popular in all the areas in the period of the three kingdoms (Koguryo, Paekje and Silla).

The murals depict two men wrestling, holding thigh bands of the opponents.

According to historical documents, the Korean people very often played Ssirum at the edge of a field and on a lawn and a sandbox on the shore of river and sea during breaks, and even children and old men played it at Ssirum sites on holidays.

Ssirum is being further developed under the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea positively carrying forward the national cultural traditions.

It is an important sport event in the country's sporting contests.

It was registered as one of the world intangible cultural heritage in November Juche 107 (2018).
