President Kim Il Sung founded the stadium on April 3, Juche 62 (1973). It is a monument of the love of our Party for the people, associated with the leadership feats of the peerlessly great men.

The President, who unfolded the grand blueprint of building the stadium, personally designated the site and indicated the orientation and ways for its building. And he named it "Pyongyang Indoor Stadium".

Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the stadium to indicate the problems arising in its management and operation and sent modern equipment and sports and cultural amusement apparatuses needed for the mass sports activities and cultural and emotional life.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, who has paid great attention to the development of sports, dispatched powerful construction forces to successfully remodel the stadium as a monumental edifice. Going round the stadium under the reconstruction, he indicated the tasks and ways for finishing the project at the highest level.

Under his initiative and meticulous guidance, the stadium was newly remodeled on the occasion of the 65th founding anniversary of the Republic.

National and international sports games and different events of national significance have been successfully held at the stadium in the past.

The stadium has the more than 12, 000-seat stand, gymnasiums and training rooms, bedrooms and dining halls.
