Pyongyang, October 2 (KCNA) -- The Mausoleum of King Tangun, the ancestral father of the Korean nation, is a precious historical site proving the long history and oneness of the nation. Five thousand years ago, Tangun built Ancient Korea with Pyongyang as its capital. But, he had long been known to be a mythical person. His mausoleum was magnificently reconstructed at the foot of scenic Mt Taebak in Kangdong County of Pyongyang in October Juche 83 (1994), thanks to the noble love of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il for the country and the nation. The President regarded it as a very important matter for re-formulating the 5, 000-year-old history of the Korean nation from the Juche-based viewpoint and demonstrating the dignity of the nation, rather than a mere academic matter, to find out the ancestral father of the nation, and had long paid deep attention to it. He assigned historians to the task for deepening the study of Tangun and gave precious teachings on the study, learning about its process. As a result, Tangun's tomb was discovered in Kangdong County with the remains of two persons, believed to be Tangun and his wife, which were confirmed to be more than 5, 000-years old through scores of measurements. Being told about the fact, the President went out to the spot to guide a consultative meeting for the reconstruction of King Tangun's Mausoleum. Later, he saw to it that the mausoleum was rebuilt on the highest level in an excellent location at the foot of Mt Taebak, giving instructions related to its reconstruction on tens of occasions till the last moments of his life. Chairman Kim Jong Il made sure that Tangun's existence was evidently verified on the basis of modern science and technology, and took a measure to supply on a top-priority basis all necessary things for the reconstruction of the mausoleum. And he meticulously guided the project so that the mausoleum could be rebuilt into a monumental edifice with the characteristics of the times and the national customs to be handed down generation after generation. An event has been held every year in front of the mausoleum to mark the Foundation Day of Korea (October 3). |
