President Kim Il Sung made sure that the WPK was built as a mass-based party with workers, farmers and intellectuals as its components, and oriented all its activities to defending and realizing the demands and interests of the masses to have it struck its roots deep among them and form an integral whole with them.

Chairman Kim Jong Il proclaimed the modeling of the whole society on Kimilsungism as the supreme programme of the Party and led the cause of the Party to victory by prioritizing efforts to the strengthening of the single-minded unity of the leader, party and masses. He formulated the essence of the great Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, the guiding idea of the Party, as the people-first principle and strengthened the single-minded unity of the Party and the people in every way by defining it as the mode of existence of our Party to make selfless, devoted efforts for the good of the people.

He put forward the slogan "Everything for the people and everything by relying on them!" to make sure that absolute confidence in the Party would be kept in the minds of the people based on love and trust.
